♥ The Time

Will today be forgotten?

Will today be missed?

Keep thinking things wont change,

Still assuming it will all remain the same.

But we know we’ve got to move on,

Leaving behind memories to be treasured,

Nevertheless feels scared and uncertain,

But that will be precious, that can’t be measured.

Life would change, though we try to refrain,

But those promises aren’t meant to be broken,

Wont forget those fun times we were together,

Will we be the same, or will we be different?

Hoping deep we wont split up forever,

Denying hard, that we know how life works,

Yet, we still don’t need any goodbyes,

Because we know , it will stay in our hearts.

the pink ping pong ball

This is a story we heard in one of the talk during girls’ summit camp end of last year.

We hope you enjoy! ;)

The Pink Ping Pong Ball Story

Once upon a time, (like any typical bedtime story xP) there was a boy who was born into a rich family. He was the only son, so he certainly got anything he wanted from his rich daddy since he was small. He was incredibly smart at school too.

When he was in standard 6, he sat for his upsr exam and managed to pass with flying colours. He got a remarkable straight 5 a’s. His father was so proud of him, and as soon as they reached home, his father immediately offered a reward for his achievement. ‘My dear son,’ he said, ‘I’m very proud of you. Ask for anything you want, boy. I will try to get it for you as fast as I possibly can.’

The boy thought for awhile, and said, ‘Dad, I don’t need anything expensive. But I would love it if you can give me a pink ping pong ball.’

His father was so surprised by the request made by his son. He was wondering why his son needs a pink ping pong ball which he never heard of before. However, he did not question his sons’ demand and followed as his wished. He was sure that there must be a firm reason for the odd request.

Few years later, the boy took his pmr exam when he was in form 3. As expected, he once again obtained an excellent results of straight 7 a’s. His father could not hold the joy for his sons’ achievement, and asked if his son wants anything as a reward. ‘My son,’ he said proudly, ‘again you made us proud. You may ask for anything, dear boy, and let me get it for you. ‘

His teenage son smiled to him, and replied, ‘My beloved daddy, I have only one request. I just want another pink ping pong ball. That’s all I need for now.’

Again, his father was dazed by the weird demand by his son. He wondered why his son choosed to have yet another pink ping pong ball despite any other stuffs that a teenage boy usually ask for. Nevertheless, he fulfilled his sons’ wish and kept that matter to a side again, waiting for a right time to ask his son about it although the question always comes to his mind from time to time.

Two years afterward, the boy yet again sat for his big spm exam. His father put such hope in him that he bought every single spm books available at the book store for him. On the day the result was out, the bright and smart boy again made his family super proud and surrounded them with delight with his outstanding straight 20 a+’s results.

His father was wondering what his son might ask now as a reward. He doubted that his son will ask for another pink ping pong ball for he already had two of them which he never used at all. The rich man asked his son again, ‘my one and only son, ask anything from me,’ he said. ‘I will try to grant any wish you may ask for, young man. Just tell me what you want.’

The boy looked at his dad who was at his 40’s by that time, and said, ‘dad, as usual, I want nothing demanding. I would be happy enough if you could give me another pink ping pong ball.’

The old man was baffled. Again, his mind was full of shock and confusion. He could not understand the rationale of his beloved son. He tried to think of a reason why his son loved to keep the unusual pink ping pong balls so much, but could not come out with any. So he finally asked, ‘my son, why do you love the pink ping pong ball so much? Is there’s anything special about it for you?’

His son was taken aback by his father’s sudden question. He thought deep for a moment, and finally answered in a soft tone, ‘Dad, i never keep anything from you ever since I was small. But this is something that I kept for so long. I will definitely tell you why when the time comes. I promise.’

The rich old man had no choice but to push that matter aside again and approved what the boy yearns for. Following his excellent result, the boy managed to place himself in a top international university in no time. He did perfectly in his first two semesters, but by the third semester, he began to feel drained and poorly sick.

The boy knows that he needs to consult his doctor for any sign of illness. After several lengthy check ups, the doctor concluded that he suffers from a very strange terminal disease and could not be cured anymore. He had only about two weeks left in his life.

The news was a big turmoil blow to the poor boy. He was so terrified by the unpredicted result. The boy was so deeply depressed as he knows that he had only a little time to spend with his dearly loved father. He knew that his fathers’ happy life would turn to grief abruptly with such short notice. He was hesitating to tell his father of the news as he did not want to break his fathers’ heart.

The boy finally decided to write a long letter for his father explaining his illness and how his father should cope when he is not around anymore. He also made a note for his fathers’ question regarding the special case of the pink ping pong ball. He explained every single thing about it in details, and hope that his father will understand eventually. After writing everything down, he wrote at the front of the letter,

To my beloved daddy,

Please read this letter when no one is around. Other people are not allowed to read this except you.’

Love,
Your son.

As predicted, the boy passed away after two weeks. His father could not accept the cruel fact, and locked himself from any contact to the outer world for quite sometimes. It was his maid who found the letter left by his late son and handed it to the rich man.

The man was eager to know the content of the letter. He wanted to know the reason behind the secret of the pink ping pong ball which his son had kept so privately. He instantly rent a big boat and sailed into the middle of the sea himself alone, just to make sure that nobody was around to when he open the letter. He stopped at a spot far away from any land in the middle of the ocean, and started to tear the envelope gently and carefully.

Just as he was about to pull the letter out, a strong big wind stormed in the boat and smashed the glass windows into pieces. The letter was snapped away by the harsh wind, and flew into the storming sea. The old rich man desperately came out of the cabin into the heavy downpour and tried hard to catch the soaring letter in the thunderstorm. Soon enough, a giant violent curl waved in and crushed the whole boat and flinged the old man into the sea. The big boat cracked and sinks almost immediately. The man was nowhere to be seen, and soon, everything was gone.

After that incident, nobody heard any news about this rich old man again. The investigating team assumed that the rich old man was dead, and the case was closed after a few months.

And the pink ping pong balls secret? Nobody knows about it either. Until now.

The end.
